In the notorious "Skelya" regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a soldier beat up a chaplain

Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigations (GBR) announced that a servicemember of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelya” is under suspicion in connection with the beating of two colleagues. The suspect’s actions have become the subject of a large-scale investigation covering violations of military regulations and incidents of violence within the unit, according to prm.ua.
According to the investigation’s findings, the first incident occurred in May 2025 in the Kharkiv region. During a conflict that arose over the deployment of personnel, the suspect struck a military chaplain—who was attempting to defuse the situation—several times in the face. The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries, including a broken jaw and a concussion.
The second incident was recorded in June 2025 in the city of Barvinkove. According to investigators, a junior sergeant attacked a lieutenant colonel, knocking him to the ground and striking him multiple times on the head and body, which resulted in a fractured rib for the officer. The suspect is currently charged with violating statutory rules of conduct and committing violence against a superior officer during wartime.
GBR Director Alexei Sukhachev emphasized that the investigation into the situation at the “Skelya” regiment is a priority, and that the actions of the command staff will be subject to an appropriate legal assessment. Earlier, amid reports of possible torture and the deaths of servicemen at the regiment’s training centers, the unit’s commander, Yuriy Garkavyi, was suspended from duty.
