In Nigeria, Islamist militants have kidnapped the family of a Christian pastor

A high-profile incident occurred in northeastern Nigeria: a group of armed Islamists kidnapped the wife and three children of Pastor Moses Guguma. The crime took place on July 18, 2026, near the village of Kareto, according to Persecution.org.

According to the information received, the incident took place near a military checkpoint. The militants stopped a car traveling from Maiduguri to Damasak and forcibly removed the pastor’s family from the vehicle. Notably, the attackers released the other passengers and the driver because they were Muslim, indicating that the abduction was a targeted act motivated by religion.

It is believed that the radical groups “Boko Haram” or “Islamic State of West Africa” were involved in the attack. Pastor Moses Guguma, who leads the “Church of Christ in All Nations” congregation, reported that his wife was on her way to join him after completing a course of medical treatment, and called on believers to pray for the safety of his loved ones. As of now, no ransom demands have been received from the kidnappers.
