The Kharkiv City Council terminated the lease agreement for the land on which the diocesan administration of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is located

During an extraordinary session, the Kharkiv City Council voted to terminate the land lease agreement with the Kharkiv Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The city has reclaimed more than 3 hectares of land, including Cathedral Square, a plot with an energy facility, and the area where the diocese building is located. According to a statement by Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, the land plot in question, located at 8/10 Universitetskaya Street, was leased to the diocese back in 2008 for a term ending in 2057. Currently, city authorities are planning a large-scale renovation of Soborny Square, as, in the opinion of city officials, this green space is currently in poor condition.

As a reminder, Igor Guz previously threatened to seize two significant monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, located in Zimnoe and Nizkinichi in the Volyn Oblast, in favor of the OCU. The MP called on the monks at these monasteries to join the OCU or prepare to be evicted.
