The United States has expressed its support for the preservation of the historical heritage of St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai

The U.S. Department of State has officially reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the historical and religious significance of St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai, which is the oldest continuously operating Christian monastery in the world. According to Zivotcrkve.rs, Washington is closely monitoring the situation surrounding this World Heritage Site.

The statement from the U.S. State Department came amid unresolved issues regarding ownership rights to the monastery’s land and property, which arose following a court ruling in Egypt on May 28, 2025. U.S. authorities emphasize the need to preserve the unique status of this ancient holy site.

An important step in this direction was a meeting between Masad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President on Arab and African Affairs, and Archbishop Damian (Simeon), which took place on July 18 at the monastery’s metochion in Cairo. During the talks, Boulos delivered a personal message from President Donald Trump reaffirming support for efforts to preserve the historical status quo, as well as the spiritual and cultural identity of St. Catherine’s Monastery.
