An Orthodox parish in Texas welcomed 15 new catechumens

The parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) in Georgetown, Texas, welcomed a significant number of new members: On Sunday, September 6, 2026, 15 new people joined the ranks of the catechumens. According to the OrthoChristian publication at , this event brought the total number of catechumens in the parish to 90.

The rector of the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, Father Moses McPherson, emphasized the importance of spiritual preparation for receiving the sacrament of Baptism. According to him, during the year of catechesis, special prayers are repeatedly recited over those preparing for baptism, which demonstrates a serious approach to integrating new parishioners into the Church.

The growth of the community in Georgetown is part of a nationwide trend of active growth in Orthodoxy. It was previously reported that the parish acquired a $2 million property with a mansion in Hutto, Texas, where plans are underway to build a new church and a large-scale Orthodox center. It is worth noting that dynamic growth is also being observed in other communities in the region: in particular, another Orthodox parish in the state currently has 55 catechumens.
