An attempted intrusion onto the grounds of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) church was reported in the Zhytomyr region

In the village of Stara Chertoria in the Zhytomyr region, another conflict broke out near the Trinity Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Supporters of the OCU attempted to enter the church grounds, continuing previous disputes over the religious community and ownership of the church building.

It is reported that one of the participants in the incident, , attempted to climb over the fence, but parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) prevented him from doing so. The publication characterizes the incident as a provocation and notes that this is not the first such incident at the Trinity Church.

It is worth noting that tensions surrounding the parish had previously escalated following an incident related to the funeral of the late soldier Ivan Tarasov. It is reported that the relatives insisted on the participation of OCU clergy in the funeral service at the UOC church, while the parish rector, Archpriest Tarasiy Gavriliv, proposed either conducting the funeral service independently or allowing OCU representatives to pray in their own premises.

Afterward, false information was circulated online claiming that the church doors had been closed in the face of the fallen soldier’s body. The publication also reports that during the funeral, calls were made to seize the church, and on June 4, a meeting attended by outsiders was held at the local cultural center, after which a door-to-door petition drive began.

It is also noted that earlier, OCU representative Paisiy Kukharchuk had handed over documents to the initiative group regarding the community’s admission into the OCU. Against this backdrop, the situation in Stara Chertoria remains contentious, and the question of the church’s ownership continues to spark heated debates among local residents.
