The Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa has provided six communities in Nigeria with clean water

In August 2026, the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church completed a large-scale project to provide access to clean drinking water in Nigeria. Thanks to the support of donors, new artesian wells were drilled and equipped with modern water supply systems in six parishes, according to the OrthoChristian portal .

New water sources have been established in the parishes of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Mbaakira, the Great Martyr Catherine in Ogbunike, the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Ugbaikwo, St. Joseph in Ati, as well as in the villages of Noor and Agaave. The implementation of this project was a response to the acute humanitarian crisis that local residents had been facing for years.

In his letter of thanks addressed to Metropolitan Constantine of Cairo and North Africa, Archimandrite Nifont (Khule) emphasized that rural communities had previously suffered from a shortage of drinking water, which led to disease and crop failure. “Today, clean water flows where there was once only a struggle for survival,” the letter states. Now, parishioners receive not only spiritual support at church but also vital resources for their daily lives.
