In the Chernivtsi region, police fined the organizers of a UOC religious procession

Law enforcement agencies in the Chernivtsi region have brought administrative charges against the organizers of the traditional religious procession to the Boyany Monastery. The reason was a violation of the region’s restrictions on mass gatherings under martial law. This was reported by ZAXID.NET.

During the prayer procession, which took place on September 24, pilgrims walked about 10 kilometers from the outskirts of Chernivtsi to the women’s monastery in the village of Boyany to venerate the Boyany Miraculous Icon of the Mother of God. According to local authorities, between two and three thousand believers took part in the annual pilgrimage.

Bukovina police officers identified the organizers of the event and issued two citations against them under Article 185-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. This provision of the law establishes liability for violations of the procedures governing the organization and conduct of assemblies, rallies, street processions, and demonstrations.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that the traditional annual religious procession, which was scheduled to begin on August 19 from the Holy Trinity Brailov Women’s Monastery to the Dormition Pochaiv Lavra, would not take place this year. The decision to cancel the event was made due to the state of martial law and a corresponding order from the Vinnytsia Regional Administration.
