A former exarch of the Phanar in Ukraine was elected the head of the UOC of Canada

On July 22, 2022, the Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople elected Bishop Hilarion (Rudnyk) Metropolitan of Canada, Archbishop of Winnipeg and the Central Diocese. It is reported by romfea.gr.
Born in Lviv in 1972, Rudnyk was the first citizen of independent Ukraine to become a bishop of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
On September 7, 2018, Bartholomew appointed Bishop of Edmonton and the Western Diocese Hilarion as his exarch in Kyiv, along with Archbishop Daniel of Pamphylia.
Hilarion Rudnyk actively participated in the preparations for the creation of the OCU. Before Hilarion, the head of the UOC of Canada of the Patriarchate of Constantinople was Georgiy (Kalischuk), who left, as media reports, retired in 2021 due to reaching the age of 70.
