As we reported earlier, on June 28, 2024, the “opening” of the ancient Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv, which was taken away from the Chernihiv Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in October 2023, took place in the format of a museum. It is reported that from now on, the entrance to the church will be paid, and there are no plans to hold services there anymore.

Rostyslav Karandeyev, the interim head of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, said that his department is working to return the Holy Dormition Pochayiv and Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavras to state ownership. In addition, according to the official, similar work is being done with regard to other real estate. He said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“Today, we are doing a lot of work in the Pochayiv Lavra, the Sviatohirsk Lavra, and other sites, in particular, in the Chernihiv Ancient Reserve, most of which was also used by the diocese of the UOC-Moscow Patriarchate. We are working to return these objects to state control,” – Karandeyev said.
The official added that the tasks set before the ministry to cleanse the cultural space of imperial narratives and get rid of any manifestations of colonial policy are being successfully fulfilled.
