In the UOC-KP reacted to the information that Zelensky asks the patriarchate for Ukraine

The so-called Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) has responded to Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statements that he had asked the head of Phanar for the status of “patriarchate” for Ukraine. The press service of the organization said that it welcomed such an initiative of the head of state and expected a positive response from Patriarch Bartholomew to this request. The corresponding statement is posted on the website of the UOC-KP.
“The fullness of our Church supports this position of the Head of the Ukrainian State. We are convinced that it is the Patriarchate that will contribute to the spiritual sovereignty of our people and help achieve the desired unity of all Ukrainian Orthodoxy. This is especially important now, during the Russian-Ukrainian war and in the confrontation with the ideology of the so-called “Russian world.” The multi-million Ukrainian flock has all the historical and canonical grounds to receive such a high church status. It is important that this will benefit the entire Universal Orthodoxy. We believe that His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, realizing his historical mission, will understand the request of the President of Ukraine and will eventually satisfy the needs of the pious Ukrainian people by granting the status of patriarchate to the Ukrainian Church,” – the UOC-KP said in a statement.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the information that he had appealed to Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople with a request to grant the status of “patriarchate” to Ukraine, obviously referring to the OCU. The Head of State believes that Ukrainians would positively perceive such a step by Phanar.
