Pochaev City Council refused to side with the UOC in the case of expropriation of the Holy Dukhov Monastery-skeet

The Pochayiv City Council refused to take the side of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the case of expropriation of the complex of premises of the Holy Spirit Monastery, which the state wants to take away from the monastic community of the UOC. Earlier it was reported that the Pochayiv City Council, together with the Holy Spirit Monastery of the UOC, filed a lawsuit to challenge the decision of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to cancel the ownership of the monastic community to the complex of buildings. However, the city council has now withdrawn its lawsuit. This was reported by the regional publication Holos.

“In the case of the abolition of the ownership of the complex of buildings of the Holy Spirit Monastery, the Pochayiv City Council filed an appeal because it does not consider itself a proper defendant in this case, since the previous decision of the Economic Court of Ternopil Region of 08/14/2024 canceled the state registration of ownership of 2004 for real estate that had never belonged to the Pochayiv City Council. But given the resonance in the media, in order to avoid manipulation and distortion, the city council filed an application with the Western Economic Court of Appeal on 21.10.2024 to withdraw the appeal,” – the city council said.

Earlier, the head of the Ternopil Regional State Administration, Vyacheslav Nehoda, appealed to law enforcement agencies to check the mayor of Pochayiv, Vasyl Boyko, for his commitment to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Nehoda did not like the fact that Boyko defended the Pochayiv Holy Spirit Skete Monastery of the UOC in the issue of transferring the complex of premises occupied by the monastery to state ownership.
