SSU takes case of UOJ journalists to court

The Security Service of Ukraine has sent to court the case of journalists and employees of the Union of Orthodox Journalists. According to the agency’s investigators, the UOJ journalists organized information sabotage on the orders of the Russian Federation’s special services. The journalists face life imprisonment with confiscation of property. This was reported by Suspilne.

According to the case file, Archpriest Serhiy Chertylin of the UOC coordinated the activities of political experts who, according to the investigation, “massively spread Kremlin narratives.” In their materials, they “justified Russia’s war against Ukraine and incited interfaith hatred in our country.” All four defendants were detained by the SBU in March this year.

“Currently, the indictments against the detainees have been sent to court. The criminals face life imprisonment with confiscation of property. Thanks to the SBU’s prompt response, the enemy cell was neutralized at the beginning of its subversive activities against Ukraine. A special pre-trial investigation is underway against more than 10 other members of the Russian agents, as they are hiding abroad,” – the statement said.

As reported, on September 12, 2024, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine published an order according to which the information website Raskolam.net and other online media supporting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church were re-blocked on the territory of Ukraine. The decision was made in response to a request from the Security Service of Ukraine and will remain in effect until the end of martial law in the country.
