OCU believes that a movement to break with the ROC is maturing in the UOC

A former priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and now a member of the OCU, Georgy Kovalenko, claims that a movement to break with the Russian Orthodox Church is maturing in the UOC. Kovalenko is convinced that this should be facilitated by the new anti-church law No. 3894, aimed at banning the UOC. He said this in a commentary to Media Center Ukraine.

“We see a powerful movement within the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to eventually break the connection with Moscow. The new legislation should help this. This process goes in several directions, and it is continuous, although sometimes many people would like it to be faster. But still, the church is quite conservative, a rather slow community, and we must be respectful and patient with these processes,” — Kovalenko said.

As reported earlier, Dmytro Vovk, associate professor, candidate of law, head of the Center for the Study of the Rule of Law and Religion, commented on the scandalous law No. 3894 adopted by the Verkhovna Rada aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The expert is convinced that the law does not comply with international human rights standards and is aimed at the domestic audience to imitate the fight against everything “pro-Russian.”
