As reported, on November 1, 2024, a film screening was held in the ancient Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv, which was taken over from the Chernihiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The event was organized by the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Chernihiv Ancient”. In addition, an exhibition was organized in the church.
"This is a normal practice for Europe": Chernihiv reserve to continue to use churches seized from UOC for other purposes

The general director of the Chernihiv Ancient Reserve, Natalia Rebrova, said that the institution will continue to use the churches of Chernihiv taken from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church not for their intended purpose, but for organizing secular and cultural events. Rebrova argues that since these churches are architectural monuments that are a historical heritage, they cannot be used exclusively for worship. The official said this in an interview with Pechera.info.
“The cathedral is unique, one of the two — there is St. Sophia of Kyiv and the Savior (Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv — ed.). We think through all the events that take place here very carefully. We would not want to overstep the boundaries, but we want to demonstrate the high standard to which the Savior obliges us. And it seems to me that we are succeeding. The reaction of the society — Chernihiv, Kyiv, and all-Ukrainian — these are highly educated people, noble people, people with a deep and true Ukrainian position, and we are very pleased. This is a space not only for religious rites but also for cultural initiatives, such as film screenings. The cathedral should be for everyone, both believers and the secular public,” — Rebrova said.
