Christians in India suffer from violence and discrimination

According to the Evangelical Fellowship of India Religious Liberty Commission (EFIRLC), in 2024, Christians in India experienced violence and discrimination in 640 cases, which shows a steady increase in the number of cases compared to previous years. This is reported by Сhristiandaily.

It is reported that 640 incidents, compared to 601 cases recorded in 2023, have almost quadrupled compared to 147 cases recorded in 2014, continuing a decade-long trend of increasing hostility towards the religious minority, which makes up 2.3% of India’s population.

“The systematic and organized persecution of Christians has reached a critical level in several states. Our biggest concern is that an average of four to five churches or pastors are attacked every day, with the number of attacks almost doubling every Sunday when believers come to worship,” said Vijayesh Lal, the brotherhood’s general secretary.

The EFIRLC report “Faith at Risk: A Study of Violence and Discrimination Against Christians in India (2024)” states that Uttar Pradesh remains the hottest spot for persecution with 188 incidents, followed by Chhattisgarh (150), Rajasthan (40), Punjab (38), and Haryana (34).

Earlier, we reported that the Chinese Communist Party considers the right to freedom of religion as a threat to its political regime. In this regard, China’s Ministry of Public Security has announced an increase in spending on technology and manpower to combat independent religious organizations as part of a repressive campaign that includes the suppression of the independent Christian house church movement.
