The father of a Ukrainian military medic suggested that his daughter finish off a wounded priest from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

A social media post by military anesthesiologist Ulyana Kashchiy sparked a wave of public criticism. The doctor recounted a conversation with her own father about how to treat a wounded clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, after which she was urged to “finish off” the patient. She wrote about this on her Threads account.

The story, once made public, drew sharp condemnation from social media users. Readers emphasized that a doctor’s professional ethics require providing care to any patient, regardless of their religion or nationality. Commenters noted that such statements devalue human life and undermine a doctor’s professional duty, especially in the context of military operations.

Roman Babich, a mobilized priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who was recently wounded on the front lines and lost comrades in arms, also reacted to the post. In response to the criticism, Ulyana Kashchiy clarified that the wounded priest in question had received all necessary medical care in full, adding that doctors, despite their personal feelings, continue to fulfill their professional duty toward every casualty.

As a reminder, earlier the press service of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reported on the tragic death of Hierodeacon Nifont (Shendyapin), a monk at the Svitiaz St. Peter and Paul Monastery. The clergyman, who had previously been forcibly conscripted, was killed on the front lines of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
