Recall, March 16, 2025 in Tirana held elections for the new Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church. According to the results of the election process, Metropolitan John of Korczan was elected as the new Beatitude Archbishop of Tirana and All Albania, who had previously held the position of Primate’s See.

On March 17, 2025, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria sent congratulations to the newly elected Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop John. Patriarch Theodore congratulated Archbishop John on his election, expressing support for his future ministry. It was reported by the Orthodoxia News Agency.
“The news of your election to the archbishopric of the Autocephalous Church of Albania reached us like a refreshing breeze in the country of the Nile, filling us, together with the hierarchy, clergy and faithful people of the venerable Patriarchal Throne of St. Mark, with great joy. Your canonical election inspires optimism and bodes well for a fruitful high priestly ministry as you succeed your recently deceased and highly respected predecessor and spiritual father, Archbishop Anastasios. A man of great ecclesiastical and spiritual authority, an outstanding scholar and teacher who was universally recognized, he worked tirelessly to revive from the ashes, to establish, strengthen and ensure, as far as possible, the unshakable continuity of the Holy Orthodox Church of Albania. Therefore, we pray from the bottom of our hearts that the Lord will strengthen and support you in the high, responsible and significant work of your newly begun ministry. We warmly congratulate you and, awaiting your peaceful letters, sincerely pray that your archbishop’s ministry will be long and unhindered, in the health of body and soul, for the glory of God and the edification of your Christ-loving flock,” — the greeting reads.
