The first meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2025 takes place in Moscow

On March 20, 2025, the first meeting of this year’s Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church began at the Patriarchal and Synodal Residence in the Danilov Monastery. The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church will be chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. This is reported by the ROC DECR Communication Service.
It is reported that the meeting is attended by:
— permanent members of the Holy Synod: Metropolitan Volodymyr of Chisinau and All Moldova; Metropolitan Oleksandr of Astana and Kazakhstan, head of the Metropolitan District in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, head of the Central Asian Metropolitan District; Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga; Metropolitan Pavel of Krutitsky and Kolomna, Patriarchal Vicar of the Moscow Metropolis; Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslawye, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus; Metropolitan Gregory of Voskresensk, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate; Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate; Metropolitan Nikander of Vladimir and Suzdal, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Department of the Moscow Patriarchate;
— temporary members of the Holy Synod: Metropolitan Filaret of Novokakhovka and Genichesk; Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta; Archbishop Mark of Vorkuta and Usinsk; Bishop Tarasiy of Balashov and Rtyshchev; Bishop Tikhon of Ishim and Aromashev.
As reported, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held on March 19, 2025. One of the decisions taken at the Synod of the UOC was the intention to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council at the church-wide level.
