Trial in case of expulsion of UOC from territory of Upper Lavra postponed to May

On April 28, 2025, the Northern Commercial Court of Appeal of Kyiv held a hearing on the case of the unilateral termination by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine of the agreement that provided the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with access to the territory of the Upper Lavra. As a result of lengthy proceedings, the court decided to postpone the hearing. This is reported by the Fortress Lavra Telegram channel.

“Taking into account the petitions of the monastery’s defenders, including due to the filing of several new applications, as well as due to the court’s work schedule, the hearing is postponed! The case of the Upper Lavra will be considered on May 12 at 15:20,” – the message says.

On the morning of March 28, 2025, representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, accompanied by the police, seized the Near and Far Caves of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where the imperishable relics of the Kyiv-Pechersk monks rest. The invaders broke down the doors at the entrances to the Caves and installed their own locks.
