Jupiter Temple Built in Poltava — the First Since Antiquity

The first Roman pagan temple in over 1,600 years dedicated to Jupiter has been built in Poltava. The initiative belongs to the public project TEMPLVM, founded in 2009 with the aim of reviving the Roman spiritual tradition. This was reported by Lavra Live.
The first step toward realizing the idea was the installation of an altar to Jupiter outside Poltava. This marked the beginning of the temple’s construction. In 2017, the temple was largely completed, and it was “consecrated” that same year.
The war in Ukraine, which began in 2022, slowed down further plans to create a full temple complex. However, the project’s initiators did not halt their efforts: most recently, an altar to Jupiter was installed in front of the sanctuary entrance.
Today, the temple remains active — rituals and mysteries are held regularly, and the project continues to grow.
It was previously reported that, according to the head of the Poltava diocese of the OCU, Bishop Fedir, about 10 communities have changed their jurisdiction to the OCU since the law banning the UOC came into force. According to the OCU representative, this process is “natural and unrelated to current political or legal changes.”
