In Poltava, deputies recommend to submit to session the issue of land for new OCU church

In Poltava, deputies of the land commission of the city council unanimously supported the initiative to submit to the session the issue of allocating a land plot for the construction of a new church of the OCU. According to Suspilne Poltava, the relevant decision was made on December 23 by a unanimous decision of all seven members of the commission present at the meeting, which was broadcast live.

This is the territory at the junction of the city and the village of Gozhuly – not far from the old cemetery, at the intersection of Gozhulivska and Myroslav Kabushka (formerly Stepova) streets. In case of construction of the church, the clergy of the OCU undertake to take care of the adjacent old cemetery.

This appeal was made to the city council by the head of the Poltava Diocese of the OCU. His proposal was submitted to the deputy commission for the regulation of land relations, environmental protection and nature management by deputy Vadym Yamshchykov.

During the meeting, all members of the commission supported the initiative to further consider the issue of providing a land plot for the construction of a religious building. During the discussion, it was clarified that in this part of Poltava there is already a church of the Holy Martyr Panteleimon and the chapel of the Holy Archangel Michael, but there is still no large, separately built church of the OCU.

Following the discussion, the members of the commission supported the recommendation to submit this issue for consideration by the city council session, which was scheduled for December 24.

As reported, the Odesa City Council gave permission to develop a land management project for the construction of the OCU Cathedral. The plot was allocated in the Cosmonauts Park, where the Holy Trinity Church of the OCU is currently located. According to Zhanna Mandrychenko, a member of the Odesa City Council, the idea to build the cathedral dates back to 2000. However, since then, the project has made little progress.
