“Young Republicans” of New York publish a devastating statement criticizing the Ukrainian government for banning the UOC

The press service of the youth wing of the US Republican Party (Young Republicans of New York) has published a devastating statement in which the government of Ukraine, the OCU, and Vladimir Zelensky himself are mercilessly criticized for banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The statement indicates that Zelensky is fighting the UOC for American taxpayers’ money, while trying to replace the UOC with a “schismatic group that follows all his instructions.” The text, which we reproduce in full, was published on the website of the Young Republicans of New York.

The American people are completely unaware that their government is financing the expulsion of Orthodox Christians from Ukraine. Fed up with billions of dollars of American taxpayer money, Zelenskyy’s authoritarian regime and its secret police, the SBU, are ending a years-long struggle to spiritually ethnically cleanse their country. If implemented, Law 3894 will do away with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) forever and replace it with a schismatic group that takes direct orders from the Zelenskyy regime. The impending fate of the UOC should inspire Christians around the world to stand up for their Orthodox brothers and stop Zelensky from implementing this law.

Few Americans are aware that in August 2024, the Ukrainian government passed a law outlawing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which until recently was the dominant religion in the country. Such a harsh law would be hardly believable in a free country, but Ukraine is not free, and this was neither the beginning nor the end of their persecution of the UOC. Since February 2022, more than 1,500 UOC parishes have been confiscated by the government and transferred to the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), which is recognized by only a handful of Orthodox patriarchates. Law 3894 was passed in August last year, but now the Zelenskyy regime is preparing to do away with the UOC forever.

Virtually every human rights organization on the planet has condemned Ukraine’s actions; even left-wing NGOs that usually hate Christianity are making noise. Human Rights Watch, the UN Human Rights Office, and the US Federal Commission on Religious Freedom have all condemned the Zelenskyy regime. Pope Francis has unequivocally stated that «no Christian church can be abolished directly or indirectly. Churches must not be touched.»

The New York Young Republicans Club calls for swift action at the federal level to stop the spiritual ethnic cleansing of Ukraine before it is too late. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has canceled elections, arrested and killed his political opponents, and taken billions in American tax dollars. Not content with this, he is spiritually colonizing millions of UOC Christians and imposing a new, unrecognized church on his people that is accountable not to God but to the government, leaving the people without communion with their brothers and sisters. This is where the United States government must finally draw the line.

Speaking on the Senate floor last April, then-Senator J.D. Vance condemned the “attack on traditional Christian communities” in Ukraine and added that “you cannot deny an entire religious community freedom of religion because some of its supporters disagree with you on the current conflict of the day.” Now that he has become the vice president of the United States, it is time to back up his words with concrete actions.

While the Trump administration is negotiating to end the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, any agreement between the parties must restore the UOC to its historical significance and return civil and religious freedoms to the people of Ukraine.

Recently, Ukrainian political analyst Kostyantyn Bondarenko commented on the statements of representatives of the Ukrainian government about the implementation of anti-church law No. 3894, aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The political analyst argues that the full implementation of the law will lead to a negative reaction from the United States.
