Viktor Yelenskyi Informed U.S. Senators about the Religious Situation in Ukraine

On June 4, 2025, in Washington, a Ukrainian delegation led by Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak conducted an analytical briefing for 23 U.S. senators from both political parties. The delegation also included Viktor Yelenskyi, Head of Ukraine’s State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience. During the meeting, Viktor Yelensky together with Mikhail Brytsin, pastor of the Protestant church from Melitopol, made a statement on the religious situation in Ukraine, paying special attention to the events in the territories not controlled by Ukraine. In his statement, Yelenskyi spoke of alleged widespread violations of religious freedom, persecution of clergy, and destruction of religious infrastructure by Russian forces.

Earlier, we reported that the Russian version of the negotiation memorandum includes a provision on restoring the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The memorandum regarding the settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict was presented at talks between Moscow and Kyiv on June 2 in Istanbul.
