Let us remind that the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kaniv, Theodosiy, spoke about the details of the events leading up to the seizure of St. Andrew’s Church of the UOC in Cherkasy. The archbishop noted that the mayor of Cherkasy, Anatoly Bondarenko, during a conversation with the metropolitan, admitted that the city authorities had no documents for St. Andrew’s Church and the land beneath it. However, the mayor refused to address the issue in court.
OCU in Cherkasy complains that it cannot take away church from UOC

Representatives of the OCU branch in Cherkasy complain that the clergy and believers of the UOC do not allow them to enter the local church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in honor of the Nativity of Christ. The OCU calls this church “theirs” because they previously held an illegitimate meeting of the territorial community, at which they decided to re-register the UOC community in favor of the schism and, as a result, with the help of local authorities, registered the ownership of the building for themselves. This was reported by the regional publication 18000.
“The community made the decision to move several months ago, before the transfer of the church to Mytnytsia. But the situation there remains similar to that in St. Andrew’s Church. The priests do not allow the community to worship because they remain in canonical unity with the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate and do not want to change their jurisdiction,” — said Ivan Yaremenko, head of the Cherkasy branch of the OCU.
