The Synod of the Romanian Church criticized the Ukrainian government for refusing to register its structure on the territory of the state

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, which met in Bucharest from July 1 to 2, 2025, published a press release on the results of its work, in which, among other things, it criticized the Ukrainian government for refusing to register the Romanian Patriarchate’s structure, the Romanian Orthodox Church of Ukraine, on the territory of the country. The Romanian Orthodox Church considers this decision by the Ukrainian authorities to be “abuse.” This was reported by the press service of the Romanian Patriarchate.

“The Synod noted with regret the continuing unjustified and malicious refusal of the Ukrainian state authorities to legally recognize the religious association ”Romanian Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” despite its compliance with all applicable requirements of Ukrainian law. The Synod approved the continuation of support for Romanian Orthodox communities in Ukraine,” – the statement said.

Recall that recently, religious scholar and OCU lobbyist Alexander Brodetsky criticized the Romanian Orthodox Church for its unwillingness to recognize the Ukrainian schism. Brodecki accused the Romanian Patriarchate of imperialism and of orienting itself toward priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the matter of the Ukrainian church crisis.
