Serbian Patriarch expresses support for Primate of Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Serbian Patriarch Porphyry sent greetings to the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine, on the occasion of his name day. In his letter to Metropolitan Onufry, Patriarch Porphyry expressed his support for His Beatitude and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which, according to the primate, “is being persecuted by the authorities.” This was reported by Romfea.gr.
«We observe the patience of the saints (Rev. 14:12) in Ukraine and at the same time admire your unwavering witness to the Gospel of the world and truth in times of severe trials, persecution, and injustice that have struck the Holy Church entrusted to you. May the Lord, who has called you to the great and responsible office of bishop, grant you spiritual and physical strength, enlighten your mind, and sustain you in the love, wisdom, and faith with which you have hitherto guided the flock entrusted to you,» — said Patriarch Porphyry.
We recall that recently, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, which took place in Bucharest from July 1 to 2, 2025, published a press release on the results of its work, in which, among other things, criticized the Ukrainian government for refusing to register the Romanian Patriarchate’s structure, the Romanian Orthodox Church of Ukraine, in the country. The Romanian Orthodox Church considers this decision by the Ukrainian authorities to be “abuse.”
