Deputy Poturaev proposed to convene a second “unification council” for the OCU and the UOC

The head of the parliamentary committee on humanitarian and information policy and one of the ideologists behind the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Mykyta Poturayev, proposed convening another “unification council” in order for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to become part of the OCU. The MP is convinced that this is the only way the UOC can resolve the issue of the future ban on the Church. He said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
Poturaev pointed out that even if the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC is banned, the law does not prohibit the Church from creating a new governing body. Although this can be done now. The deputy is convinced that the OCU and the UOC need to unite, for which a council must be convened. He claims that such a process will not be an absorption.
“That is, it is precisely a process of unification, not the absorption of one church by another,” — explains the MP, adding that thanks to this decision, the UOC could retain international recognition.
It should be noted that earlier, the head of the DESS, Viktor Yelensky, repeatedly stated that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not required to join the OCU.
