Shevchuk: “UGCC – the only Ukrainian Church uniting the global Ukrainian community”

Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Sviatoslav Shevchuk, during a meeting with Ukraine’s new ambassador to Sweden, Svetlana Zalishchuk, stated that the UGCC plays a key role in maintaining and consolidating the Ukrainian community abroad. According to him, the UGCC not only provides spiritual support to Ukrainians in the diaspora but also acts as an important partner to the state in preserving the national identity of Ukrainians worldwide. This information was published on the official UGCC website.

Shevchuk provided details about the status of the Ukrainian community in Sweden, which numbers around 70,000 people. Their spiritual care is ensured by three UGCC priests under the jurisdiction of the Apostolic Exarchate in Germany and the Scandinavian countries.

“The head of the UGCC wished the new ambassador that in her ”eyes saw Ukraine as it really is“, and assured that the Church will be by her side in the diplomatic mission — for the good of the Ukrainian people,” — noted on the website of the UGCC.

Recall also that the press service of the OCU published an official comment on the recent statement of the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk, in which he accused this structure of striving to become a state church and of appropriating the property of other denominations. The OCU’s commentary is entitled “A true word for all Christians in Ukraine: we do not divide, but heal the wounds of war”.
