The Patriarchs of Jerusalem and Moscow held a bilateral meeting in Kazakhstan

on September 17, 2025, the Primates of the Patriarchates of Jerusalem and Moscow held a bilateral meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan. Communication of Patriarchs Theophilus and Kirill became possible, including thanks to the «8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions», in which both Primates are participating. This is reported by Patriarchia.ru.

It is reported that the meeting was attended by the personal secretary of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, Bishop Alexis of Ramensk, and the deputy chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archimandrite Filaret (Bulekov). The details of the Patriarchs’ communication have not yet been reported.

Note, we recently reported that Greek church media criticized Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos. The reason was the disagreement between the head of the Jerusalem Church and Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople on a number of fundamental issues, including the recognition of the Ukrainian schism. Patriarch Theophilos was also reminded of the Amman Council, accusing him of excessive adherence to the Moscow Patriarchate.
