The Supreme Court of Ukraine has scheduled an appeal hearing in the case of the UOC v. DESS

The Cassation Administrative Court of the Supreme Court of Ukraine has completed preparatory actions in the case of the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church v. State Service of Ukraine for Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience No. 855/11/25 (proceedings A/990/13/25) and scheduled it for appeal consideration. The court hearing will be held on October 28, 2025 at 15:00 at the following address: Kyiv, 8 Princes Ostrozhskiye Str., building 5.

According to the State Service of Ukraine on Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience, this announcement is made in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Administrative Procedure of Ukraine. The Code obliges central executive authorities implementing state policy in the sphere of religion, or bodies authorized to register charters of religious organizations, to publish such information on their official web resources.

The preparatory actions in the case were completed on the basis of the determination of the Cassation Administrative Court within the Supreme Court of October 7, 2025. Thus, Case No. 855/11/25 is now officially scheduled for consideration by the appellate procedure. According to the original announcement, a copy of the relevant court’s ruling is also attached.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the Supreme Court of Ukraine has accepted for consideration the appeal of the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) against the lower court’s decision in the case against the State Service of Ukraine for Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS). The move moves one of the most high-profile legal proceedings concerning the activities of the UOC to the country’s highest court.
