Patriarchs of Constantinople and Romania to jointly consecrate the National Cathedral in Bucharest

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and Patriarch Daniel of Romania will jointly lead the Divine Liturgy on the occasion of the consecration of the new National Cathedral in Bucharest. This event is scheduled for October 26, 2025.
According to the press service of the Romanian Patriarchate, the solemn service will be the central event in the program of the cathedral’s consecration. The participation of the two Primates in the liturgy emphasizes the unity and fraternal relations between the Local Orthodox Churches. Thousands of faithful are expected to attend the historic service, as well as representatives of state authorities and guests from other countries.
The summer altar will be installed in front of the main western narthex of the cathedral, which will allow the service to be held in the open air. The square in front of the cathedral can accommodate about 23,000 believers during such celebrations.
Recall that Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria is expected to raise the issue of his visit to the limits of the Patriarchate of Constantinople at the upcoming meeting of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Church. The move, which could take place late this year or early next year, would follow more than a year after his election and would be an important development in relations between the two Churches.
