MP Bobrovska called for the Koretsky monastery to be taken from the Church

Ukrainian MP Solomiya Bobrovska has called on Ukraine to «return» the Koretskyy Holy Trinity Convent to the Russian Orthodox Church during a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada. In her statement, she accused the nuns of the monastery of working for foreign secret services and said that religious organizations occupying monuments of national importance violated numerous laws.

According to the statement by the Golos MP, the Koretsky monastery is the only one in the country that is «directly subordinate to the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church». Solomiya Bobrovska also made a high-profile statement that «the nuns have epaulettes far from the Security Service of Ukraine,» but did not provide any evidence to back up her words.

In addition, the parliamentarian accused religious communities using monuments of national importance of systematic violations. According to her, illegal additions and extensions are being built on the territories of such sites without the approval of the Ministry of Culture and regional departments. According to Bobrovskaya, these violations are sufficient grounds for termination of lease agreements. In this regard, she urged the relevant departments to «give the green light» and start the process of returning such objects to state ownership.

We shall remind you that the Rivne diocese of the PCU published a statement in which it made clear its claims to the Holy Trinity Koretskyi Stavropigial Nunnery. The basis was the conclusion of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (SESC) that there are signs of ecclesiastical and canonical connection of the monastery with the Russian Orthodox Church
