European Parliament and hundreds of churches around the world will be lit up red in support of persecuted Christians

From November 15 to 23, 2025, dozens of countries around the world will host an international Red Week initiative in which hundreds of churches and public buildings will be illuminated in red. The action, which will be joined this year for the first time by the European Parliament building, is intended to express solidarity with Christians who are being persecuted for their faith.
According to the Information and Education Department of the UOC, churches and public buildings in France, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Great Britain and other countries have confirmed their participation in the action. A special event will be the illumination of the European Parliament building in Brussels, which emphasizes the importance of the problem at a high political level.
The organizer of the lighting initiative is the international charitable foundation Aid to the Church in Need. The main purpose of the action is to draw public attention to the millions of believers who are suffering for Christ today, as well as to call for prayer for peace and religious freedom around the world.
Recall that according to the latest World Watch List 2025 report published by Open Doors US, more than 380 million Christians worldwide face persecution because of their faith. That’s one in seven believers in the world. Despite the growing pressure, Christian communities continue to exist and even grow in the countries with the highest levels of persecution.
