Iran accuses protesters of attacking infrastructure and burning 350 mosques

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made serious accusations against the recent protests, claiming targeted attacks on vital infrastructure and, most surprisingly, places of worship. According to the minister, protesters have attacked ambulances, city buses and set fire to numerous mosques. The official’s words are reported by Baku TV.

During his speech, the Iranian foreign minister reportedly noted the unusual and unprecedented nature of such actions. “The protesters attacked ambulances, city buses. They targeted mosques in a strange way. And this is really surprising. No Iranian would dare to set fire to a place of worship, ” Araghchi was quoted as saying. The minister emphasized the scale of the destruction, saying that up to 350 mosques were set on fire, which is particularly perplexing and alarming for the Iranian authorities.

Recall, we reported earlier that large-scale anti-government protests in Iran have reportedly reached a new stage, turning into an open confrontation with the country’s religious institutions. There was an incident in the Iranian city of Kerman in which protesters set fire to the Zahra Mosque. The incident is part of a wider context of ongoing unrest in the country.
