The Verkhovna Rada plans to introduce a day to celebrate the campaign of the Old Russian fleet to Constantinople

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is working on a new list of state, religious and memorable dates. According to MP Maksym Buzhanskyy on his Facebook page, among the proposed innovations are the Constitution Day of Pilip Orlik, the Coronation Day of Rus’ King Danylo Halytskyy and the Day of the Old Russian Fleet’s campaign to Constantinople. According to the deputy, in the list of Days of Military Valor there is no mention of the victory over Nazism, but this historical campaign is present.
According to the Deputy Maxim Buzhansky, under the «campaign of the Old Russian fleet to Constantinople» refers to the event of 860 — the first major attack of the Russians on the capital of Byzantium. In historical sources this campaign connects to Princes Askold and Dir. The Byzantium chronicles describe sudden occurrence of fleet at walls of Tsargrad and a siege of city that became one of the first known contacts of Russia and Byzantium.
The MP also noted that formally the Deputy Minister of culture is preparing the initiative, but the conceptual content, in his opinion, is associated with the position of the former head of the Institute of national memory Vladimir Vyatrovich.
Earlier, MP Heorhiy Mazurashu came up with an initiative to establish a new memorable date in Ukraine — Bible Day. The proposed draft law envisages an annual celebration without an additional day off, emphasizing the cultural and spiritual significance of the Holy Scripture for the Ukrainian society.
