A member of parliament from Zelenskyy’s party spoke favorably of the creation of the Ukrainian National Pantheon at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

The controversial decision to locate the Ukrainian National Pantheon on the grounds of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has sparked lively debate in political circles. In particular, Yevhen Petrunyak, a member of parliament from the pro-presidential party, believes that this initiative “is intended to highlight the historical significance of this place for Ukrainian statehood.”
On his Facebook page, Petrunyak publicly supported this move, calling the choice of location “symbolically significant.” According to him, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has remained the country’s spiritual center for many centuries, so establishing the pantheon there seems like a logical and important step.
The lawmaker also noted that a great deal of work lies ahead, including holding an architectural competition, developing a scholarly concept, and conducting mandatory public discussions of the project. Petrunyak emphasized that the appearance of the future memorial complex for future generations directly depends on the careful implementation of each of these stages.
As a reminder, former People’s Deputy Ihor Mosiychuk, for his part, had previously sharply criticized this project, stating that large-scale construction on the grounds of a UNESCO-protected holy site would lead to its destruction. The politician expressed concerns about the preservation of the Lavra’s unique caves and historical sites.
