A discussion on the role of artificial intelligence during a crisis took place at the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

An international conference on the use of artificial intelligence in the context of humanitarian challenges was held at the Refectory Church of the Upper Lavra. The event was attended by representatives of the Order of Malta, UNESCO experts, diplomats, and members of the scientific community, who discussed the prospects for using neural networks to address the consequences of military conflict.
According to the administration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Historical and Cultural Reserve, the forum’s key topics included the practical implementation of AI in medicine, education, and demining efforts. The meeting was organized by the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Ukraine in collaboration with the UNESCO mission.
Special attention during the discussion was given to the risks associated with technological development. The reserve’s Director General, Maksym Ostapenko, emphasized that AI is increasingly becoming a tool for creating disinformation and manipulation. According to him, the Lavra’s administration has personally encountered the activities of “Kremlin bots” aimed at distorting reality, which underscores the urgent need to foster critical thinking among the public.
Conference participants concluded that technological progress must be accompanied by strengthened measures to ensure information security. Following the meeting, representatives of international organizations expressed their readiness to continue cooperating with Ukraine in the field of technological countermeasures against cyberattacks.
