Monastic vows are performed in monasteries of Konotop and Kryvyi Rih Eparchies of the UOC

on March 12, 2026, on the Thursday of the third week of Lent, monastic vows were made in two monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In the Molchensky Convent of Putivl and the Pokrovsky Convent of Kryvyi Rih, new nuns took vows with names in honor of the saints. This was reported by the UOC Information and Education Department.
At the Molchensky Monastery, Metropolitan Roman of Konotop and Hlukhiv performed the tonsure of nun Parthia, who was named after St. Parthian of Kyiv, and novice Nadiia, who became a nun named Emilia in honor of St. Emilia of Cappadocia. According to the monastic tradition, the newly tonsured sisters were presented with large candles that will burn for three days, during which the nuns will be in continuous prayer. Metropolitan Roman in his teaching emphasized the importance of fidelity to vows and hope in God in the monastic feat.
On the same day, in the Intercession Monastery of Kryvyi Rih, Metropolitan Yefrem of Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol performed the tonsure of the monk Euphrosyne (Bondar), who received the name Emilia in honor of the righteous Emilia of Cappadocia, the mother of St. Basil the Great. Metropolitan Yefrem blessed the newly tonsured nun for further monastic labor and spiritual service.
As reported, the former cleric of the OCU, now a cleric of the UOC-KP, Yaroslav Yasenets, spoke about the staffing shortage of clergy and monastics in the OCU, in particular in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. According to him, there have been no new monastic ordinations in the Lavra, where the OCU brethren are active, while new monks are constantly appearing in the UOC.
