Israel's foreign minister accused Iran of deliberately attacking holy sites in Jerusalem

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, during a telephone conversation with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, announced targeted attacks by the Iranian regime on religious sites of various denominations. The reason for the official address was an incident in which fragments of an Iranian missile fell on the territory of a Greek Orthodox monastery located in close proximity to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

According to Orthodoxia News Agency, the incident took place last Tuesday. During the conversation, Saar stressed that Iran intentionally strikes civil and religious centers that are sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims. According to the Israeli foreign ministry, shell debris was recorded not only near Christian holy sites, but also in the area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount.

An official statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry noted that «nothing is sacred to this regime.» As a rocket exploded over Jerusalem’s Old City, shrapnel damaged the roof of a monastery building. The Israeli side expressed deep concern that Iran’s actions jeopardize the safety of the world’s cultural and religious monuments in Jerusalem.

Recall, on Monday, March 16, around 15:00 local time, a large fragment of a missile, shot down by an air defense system, fell 100 meters from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The incident occurred during a rocket fired by Iran towards Jerusalem.
