King Charles III has abandoned the traditional Easter address in 2026

King Charles III of Great Britain, who officially heads the Anglican Church, decided not to deliver an Easter message in 2026. This event caused a wide discussion in the British society against the background of the monarch’s growing attention to representatives of other faiths.
According to GB News, Buckingham Palace confirmed this information on April 2. Representatives of the royal residence explained that Easter speeches, unlike Christmas, are not a mandatory annual tradition. Nevertheless, experts note the contrast with 2025, when Charles III in his Easter speech emphasized the importance of Christian faith and the value of selfless service to society.
Particular attention of critics was drawn to the fact that the refusal of the Easter address coincided with active gestures of the monarch to the Muslim community. Earlier, the official accounts of the royal family published congratulations on Ramadan, and during the state visit of Nigerian President Charles III personally noted the importance of Islamic traditions and expressed deep respect for the religious exploits of Muslims during this period.
Analysts link the current situation with deeper processes within the Church of England. In particular, they mention doctrinal disputes and the activities of Bishop Sarah Mullally, whose position on a number of social issues causes mixed reactions among the clergy. At the same time, the monarch continues to pursue a course of interreligious dialogue: earlier it was reported that he took under his guardianship an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of the Jewish population.
Nevertheless, part of the British public has expressed concern that the lack of public emphasis on Easter — the main Christian holiday — may indicate a shift in priorities in the activities of the head of the state church.
