A fire broke out in the prayer room of the UOC congregation in Volyn village

On the night of Friday, April 3, 2026, in the village of Telchi, Lutsk district, a fire broke out in a temporary building used by the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for prayer. As a result of the fire, the building was partially destroyed and the church property was damaged, but a significant part of the utensils were saved.

According to the Orthodox Volyn publication, local teenagers were the first to notice the fire, and they promptly notified the rector of the parish, Archpriest Vitaly Ivankiv, and the parishioners. Before the arrival of rescuers, the faithful tried to save the shrines by their own efforts, breaking windows and taking things right out of the fire. During the rescue work several people received minor burns.

According to the clergyman, the hotbeds of fire were outside the structure, after which the flames quickly spread to the roof. At the same time, the inner part of the temple, where services were performed, miraculously suffered little damage. Two teams of rescuers, police officers and medics worked at the scene. Thanks to coordinated actions, most of the church equipment was saved, despite the serious damage to the building itself.

Currently, the UOC congregation in the village of Telchi has already found an alternative premises and in the shortest possible time arranged it for the continuation of church life. The abbot noted that by the feast of the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) parishioners have already been able to gather for prayer in the new place. The faithful continue to prepare for the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ and accept as much help as they can for the restoration of the parish.
