A significant decline in public support for LGBT initiatives has been observed in the United States

According to the latest Gallup poll, there has been a noticeable decline in support for same-sex marriage, gender reassignment procedures, and the social acceptability of same-sex relationships in the United States. These changes reflect a growing conservatism in American society regarding family and sexual ethics amid deepening political polarization.
According to the results of the 2026 Gallup annual survey, the share of Americans who approve of same-sex marriage has dropped to 64%, the lowest level since 2019. At the same time, the level of moral acceptance of same-sex relationships fell to 62%—the lowest figure in the last ten years of observations.
Researchers are paying particular attention to the issue of gender transition, approval of which has dropped from 46% in 2021 to 38% in the current period. Experts attribute this trend primarily to the stance of conservative-leaning citizens. Among Republican Party supporters, support for gender transition plummeted to a record low of 5% (compared to 22% in 2021). A decline in support has also been recorded among independent voters and Democratic Party supporters—to 42% and 60%, respectively.
The persistent divergence in views among different political groups continues to have a significant impact on public discourse and the development of regional legislative initiatives. It is worth noting that against the backdrop of these trends, Donald Trump has already announced the “Save America Act,” which proposes the introduction of a series of restrictive measures regarding the LGBT agenda.
