The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra reported that another church belonging to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church had been seized

Archpriest Mykyta Chekman, the lawyer for the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, reported that another church on the monastery grounds had been seized. According to the human rights activist, on the morning of June 11, 2026, representatives of the “reserve” cut the locks and broke into the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in the Far Caves, also known as the Academic Church.
As Archpriest Mykyta Chekman reported, these actions were carried out despite the absence of a court order. The report also states that the police present during these actions did not prevent the locks from being cut or the entry into the church.
The report states that representatives of the “reserve” used special tools to cut through the doors, after which they gained access to the church premises. In turn, no official comments from government agencies or law enforcement bodies were provided in the report.
As a reminder, on May 12, 2026, employees of the National Reserve carried out a forceful seizure of the Annunciation Church at the Far Caves of the Lower Lavra, having previously cut off the locks. The museum administration’s actions were taken despite the absence of final court rulings regarding the right to use the monastery buildings.
