A rally in support of the traditional family was held in Thessaloniki

On June 13, 2026, a mass rally in support of the traditional family took place in Thessaloniki. Rally participants spoke out against the same-sex marriage law and called on the Greek authorities to review their policies on family relations and education.

According to eeod.gr, the rally was held under the slogan “Respect for the Greek Orthodox Family.” Believers and Orthodox activists marched from the monument to Alexander the Great through the city’s central streets to the Cathedral of Saint Sophia.

According to the source, the event’s organizers brought together representatives of the clergy, the academic community, and civil society organizations. Greetings to the participants were sent by Metropolitan Seraphim of Kythira, Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos, and monks from Mount Athos.

During their speeches, the participants addressed issues such as the demographic crisis in Greece, the state of the institution of marriage, and the upbringing of young people. The speakers emphasized the need to protect traditional family values and expressed their opposition to a number of government initiatives in this area.

Following the rally, the attendees adopted a resolution calling on the Greek authorities to repeal the law on same-sex marriage and to ban gay pride parades in Thessaloniki. In addition, the participants appealed to church authorities not to feature politicians who supported these reforms or LGBT events at church functions.
