The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk called LGBT ideology and the childfree movement a threat to Ukraine

Ruslan Martsinkiv, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, stated that LGBT ideology and the “childfree” movement are harmful to the Ukrainian state, especially amid the war and the demographic crisis. The politician made these remarks in an interview withRBC-Ukraine.
According to Martsinkiv, the promotion of childlessness and the subversion of traditional family values are leading to critical depopulation and threatening the nation’s survival. He emphasized that his criticism is not directed at specific individuals, but rather at a system of beliefs which, in his words, discourages childbirth and exacerbates the demographic situation.
The mayor called on state institutions to focus on protecting traditional values and encouraging childbirth. He also noted that, under wartime conditions, the active promotion of “child-free” ideas in the media is unacceptable, as the very survival of the state is at stake.
Regarding public events, the mayor proposed limiting media coverage of them to reduce their impact on society during martial law.
As a reminder, earlier, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, held a meeting with representatives of LGBT organizations to discuss possible amendments to the draft of the new Civil Code. Activists stated the need to revise certain provisions of the document concerning the definition of family and also proposed enshrining in law provisions related to the protection of the rights of the LGBT community.
