The Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy has publicly expressed its support for the LGBT community

The Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine has publicly spoken out in support of the LGBT community, sparking a heated public debate. The ministry published a rainbow logo depicting a same-sex family and called on citizens to show respect and uphold equal rights.
The ministry’s statement was timed to coincide with so-called “Pride Month.” The post emphasized that in a just society, dignity and freedom must be accessible to everyone without exception, and that equality begins with respect for human rights.
However, the ministry’s initiative met with a sharply negative reaction from many Ukrainian citizens on social media. Users began questioning the constitutionality of such statements by a government agency, citing the legal basis for marriage in the country. In addition, commentators pointed to unresolved social issues, such as discrimination against internally displaced persons (IDPs) in previous years, in contrast to the new benefits, accusing the ministry’s leadership of hypocrisy. Earlier, an anniversary LGBT pride march was also held in Kyiv, sparking a mixed reaction from the public.
As a reminder, the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church–Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) , Nikodim Kobzar , had previously issued a sharp condemnation of the LGBT march, which took place in central Kyiv on June 21. In his official statement, the head of the church called the event “a glorification of sin” and urged Ukrainian politicians to stop supporting such initiatives.
