Kyiv authorities have announced transportation restrictions due to the gay pride parade

Kyiv authorities have announced transportation restrictions and security measures in connection with the Pride parade scheduled for June 21. The Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) has called on the capital’s residents to show “tolerance” and has promised to ensure the safety of participants in the “Equality March” even under martial law.

The KCSA stated that support for such events is “a testament to the democratic maturity of society” and a defense of the values for which Ukraine is fighting today. Officials emphasized that the safety of participants in the LGBT event remains an “unconditional priority” for them.

Concurrently with “KyivPride,” the city will host a rally “in defense of the family, children, and Ukraine,” which the organizers also notified the authorities about in advance. However, the authorities’ statement focuses primarily on supporting LGBT activists. Significant numbers of police, medical personnel, and utility workers will be deployed to maintain public order during the gay pride parade. Residents and visitors to the capital were urged to remain calm and show “mutual respect,” in line with the standards of a modern European city.

As a reminder, earlier, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, held a meeting with representatives of LGBT organizations to discuss possible amendments to the draft of the new Civil Code. Activists stated that certain provisions of the document concerning the definition of family needed to be revised and proposed enshrining provisions related to the protection of the rights of the LGBT community in legislation.
