The Russian Foreign Minister has once again spoken about the need to respect Ukrainians' right to the "Orthodox faith"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow prefers to achieve the objectives of the war against Ukraine through diplomatic means. At the same time, in his article, the politician reiterated Russia’s long-standing positions on the “security” of the Russian Federation, the Russian language, and Orthodox Christianity.
In Lavrov’s article, published by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry asserts that Russia “prefers” that the objectives of the so-called “special military operation” be achieved through diplomacy.
At the same time, Lavrov reiterated a set of arguments that Russian authorities have regularly used since the start of the war in Ukraine. In particular, he stated the need to ensure “Russia’s security on its western borders,” as well as the “honor and dignity” of Russian citizens and compatriots, including their right to the Russian language and the Orthodox faith.
“Russia prefers that the objectives of the special military operation be achieved through diplomacy. For this to happen, Russia’s security on its western borders, as well as the honor and dignity of our citizens and compatriots—including their right to their native Russian language and the Orthodox faith—must be reliably guaranteed. There can be no question of continuing Western military, political, and economic expansion—this contradicts the imperatives of a multipolar world,” the Russian Foreign Minister stated.
As a reminder, earlier, U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated thata ceasefire agreement in the war between Russia and Ukraine could include the protection of the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Whitaker noted that U.S. President Donald Trump is making considerable efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and that now is the best time to do so.
