Archbishop Rostislav Discussed the Development of Cooperation with the Georgian Ambassador to Slovakia

Archbishop Rostislav of Prešov, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, received Konstantin Kvatsakidze, the Georgian Ambassador to Slovakia. The meeting was dedicated to continuing the dialogue on prospects for cooperation between the Church and the Georgian community, as well as to strengthening ties with the Georgian Orthodox Church.
According to the Orthodoxia News Agency, the meeting took place on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the premises of the Holy Metropolis of Prešov. In addition to Archbishop Rostislav and Ambassador Konstantin Kvatsakidze, the meeting was also attended by Irakli Kordzaia, secretary of the Georgian Embassy in Slovakia, and Archpriest Mikhail Shvayko, secretary of the Holy Metropolis of Prešov.
The main topic of the talks was the continuation of discussions on areas of cooperation identified during the parties’ previous meeting on October 24, 2025. The participants reviewed specific areas of cooperation between the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia and the local Georgian community, as well as possible formats for further joint initiatives.
During the conversation, the Georgian ambassador expressed his gratitude to Archbishop Rostislav for the participation of representatives of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia in two significant events for the Georgian Orthodox Church: the memorial service for the late Patriarch Ilia II and the solemn Divine Liturgy marking the enthronement of the new Patriarch of Georgia, Shio III.
For his part, Archbishop Rostislav expressed his gratitude for the invitation and the warm welcome he received during these events. He emphasized the deep respect and spiritual closeness he feels toward both the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Georgian people.
Both sides noted the positive and constructive nature of the meeting. Following the talks, they reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening relations and developing cooperation between the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, Georgian diplomatic representatives, and the local Georgian community.
